Getting Started & Admissions
How do I know if my addiction is “bad enough” for rehab?
There is no “rock bottom” requirement for seeking help. If substance use is affecting your health, relationships, or employment, it is time to seek professional guidance. At Crestview Recovery, we provide a comprehensive assessment to determine if our Asheville-based programs are the right fit for your unique situation.
Can I go to rehab if I have a job?
Yes. Many of our clients utilize the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to protect their employment while seeking treatment. We also offer Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Day Treatment for our addiction treatment for working professionals that allow for more flexibility than traditional residential stays.
Why should I choose addiction treatment in Asheville, NC?
Asheville is a premier destination for recovery due to its serene mountain environment and supportive community. At Crestview Recovery, we utilize the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains to complement our clinical therapies, providing a peaceful atmosphere that is conducive to deep healing and reflection.
Do you accept out-of-state clients?
Absolutely. Many of our clients travel for addiction recovery from across the Southeast and the rest of the country to attend our Asheville programs. Getting away from the people, places, and triggers of home can be a powerful first step in the recovery process.
Levels of Care: Programs & Treatment Philosophy
What levels of care do you provide in North Carolina?
We provide a comprehensive “continuum of care” to support every stage of recovery that allows clients to step down in intensity as they heal:
– Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Safe, supervised withdrawal.
– Day Treatment and SACOT: High-level clinical care while living in a supportive environment during the day.
– Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Flexible therapy schedules to help you transition back to daily life.
– Aftercare & Alumni Support: Ongoing community to prevent relapse.
What is a “Master’s Level” clinician?
At Crestview, we pride ourselves on clinical excellence. A Master’s Level clinician has completed an advanced degree (such as an MSW or MA) and thousands of hours of supervised practice. This ensures you receive high-level evidence-based care for complex issues like trauma and dual diagnosis.
What is “Dual Diagnosis” and why does it matter?
Dual diagnosis refers to the co-occurrence of a substance use disorder and a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD. Because these issues often fuel one another, treating only the addiction increases the risk of relapse. Crestview specializes in integrated dual diagnosis care to treat the whole person.
Do you use the 12-Step model?
While we incorporate the community-based concepts of 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, our clinical approach is rooted in evidence-based therapies such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and EMDR for trauma. We have a similar 12-step approach, but use the idea in a broader way.
Life in Rehab: Day-to-Day
What does a typical day look like at Crestview Recovery?
While schedules vary by program, a typical day in our Asheville facility focuses on structure and balance. Mornings usually begin with mindfulness or light exercise, followed by breakfast and a morning check-in group. Afternoons are dedicated to intensive clinical work, including individual therapy and specialized groups. We also incorporate time for recreation, taking advantage of the peaceful Blue Ridge environment.
Is there free time, and what can I do during it?
Yes. Structure is vital, but so is learning how to manage downtime in a healthy way. During scheduled breaks, clients can use our fitness equipment, journal, participate in outdoor activities, or socialize with peers in our community spaces.
Can I use my phone or laptop while in treatment?
To ensure a focused healing environment, we have a specific technology policy. During the initial phase of treatment, we typically limit device use to help you disconnect from external stressors and engage with the recovery community. As you progress, we work with you on a “tech plan” to gradually reintegrate these tools.
What is the food like at Crestview?
Nutrition is a pillar of recovery. We provide healthy, chef-prepared meals designed to restore physical health and stabilize mood. We can accommodate most dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free needs, with prior notice during the admissions process.
Insurance, Cost, & Logistics
Does insurance cover the cost of rehab at Crestview?
Most private insurance plans (including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare) cover addiction treatment. The extent of coverage depends on your specific policy. We offer a free, confidential insurance verification to help you understand your benefits without any obligation.
What should I pack for my stay?
We recommend bringing about a week’s worth of comfortable, modest clothing, personal hygiene products (alcohol-free), and any current medications in their original bottles. Upon admission, our team provides a detailed packing list and conducts a safety check of all items.
Can my family visit me while I’m in treatment?
Yes. We believe addiction is a family disease, and healing the family unit is vital. We offer family therapy sessions and structured visitation to help rebuild trust and establish healthy boundaries for the future.
Success & Aftercare
What happens if someone relapses after leaving?
Recovery is a journey, and a lapse is a signal that the treatment plan needs adjustment, not a “failure.” We provide our alumni with a robust relapse prevention plan and access to our alumni network to ensure they have a community to lean on when things get difficult.
How do you measure “success” in your programs?
Success isn’t just about the number of days sober; it’s about the quality of life regained. We look at “recovery capital”—the strength of your support system, your mental health stability, and your ability to handle life’s challenges without turning to substances. Our goal is to empower you with the tools for a sustainable, joyful life.
What is an “Alumni Program,” and why should I join?
Isolation is the enemy of sobriety. Our Alumni Program in Asheville keeps you connected to a local community of peers who understand your journey. We host regular events, meetings, and check-ins, ensuring that even after you complete treatment, you are never alone in your recovery.
Does Crestview help with housing after treatment?
Yes. For many, returning to their old environment isn’t safe for their early recovery. We work closely with several high-quality sober living homes in the Asheville area to ensure our clients have a stable, drug-free environment to live in while they transition back to work or school.
What if I have a co-occurring disorder like anxiety or PTSD?
We are a dual diagnosis facility. This means your aftercare plan will include not just addiction support, but also continued psychiatric care or therapy referrals to manage your mental health. Treating both simultaneously is the most effective way to ensure long-term success.
